Description

item photo item photo The Lamberson Skiff
You will learn how to determine the amount, shape, width and bevel of the planks for the skiff based on the girth of the boat and the planking stock available. This is essential if you want to build your own boat or if you need to replace a significant amount of planking on an older boat. Planking may be the quintessential art of wooden boatbuilding and is tremendously important not only to how a vessel looks but to her watertight integrity as well. Lapstrake (clinker) planking will be taught and demonstrated. Selection and judging the characteristics of wood, and using the grain pattern of each piece to its best advantage in traditional planking will be discussed. Scarfing plywood will be demonstrated.
