Sunray Lake Runabout
The completed Monk Sunray Runabout with instructor Richard Wilmore in the background.
Vessel description
This boat is included in our 30% off inventory sale. Listed at $19,500, it now is for sale for $13,650!
The 16 1/2 foot classic lake runabout Sunray was designed by noted Seattle designer Edwin Monk in 1932; its plans appear in Monk's 1934 book republished in 1992 as "How to Build Wooden Boats" by Dover Publications, Inc. The runabout was designed to be powered by a 25 or 30 horsepower outboard engine.
Under instructor Richard Wilmore's direction, supported by assistant Jeff Covert, Sunray turned out to be a beautiful boat. It has that classic 1930's look exemplified by a refined bow flare and slight barrelback aft of the open cockpit. It is framed in white oak with mahogany and meranti planking. Deck beams are of Alaskan Yellow Cedar, as is the foredeck, with a mahogany kingplank. The runabout has a cedar seat and a mahogany windscreen.
